The Writers Speak

January 16, 2019 Prison Writes participants were invited by the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space (MORUS), to read their work and share why writing matters to them. Writers included Prison Writes Advisory Board member Karen Thomas, and participants poet Nadine West and Justin Corney who is currently working on completing his memoir. Thank you to MORUS and Sheila Jamison for providing this opportunity for us to share the therapeutic benefits of writing. Prison Writes eagerly anticipates getting back into the room with our wonderful writers and participants at all of our partnering sites throughout NYC.

Manhattan DA candidate forum

Please join The New York City Program Council for the first public forum with candidates running for Manhattan District Attorney. This seat is the chief prosecutor for all of New York County (Manhattan) and their office is responsible for prosecution at the state and City level. Candidates will be asked to share their positions on the future of the District Attorney's office. Topics to be discussed will include alternatives to incarceration, mental health diversion, police accountability, and the role of prosecutors in mass incarceration.
